TEQSA and higher education standards

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) is Australia's national regulator for higher education. Its role covers higher education providers, including universities and institutes of higher education. It does not regulate every type of education institution.

The Higher Education Standards Framework sets requirements for areas such as student participation, teaching, learning support, safety, governance and the information providers give students.

Protections for international students

The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework includes the ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code 2018. It sets requirements for education delivered to overseas students on student visas, including information before enrolment, written agreements, student support and complaint processes.

CRICOS is the government register used to check providers and courses for students studying in Australia on a student visa. The Tuition Protection Service has a separate role when a provider does not meet its tuition protection obligations.

Information you should be able to find

You should have clear information about your course, fees, academic requirements, support and complaint options. These pages bring together the details and documents available for your studies.

Complaints and independent help

Use TITAN's feedback and complaints process to raise an issue with our team. If you are dissatisfied with how a higher education complaint was handled, or cannot complain directly to your provider, you can contact the National Student Ombudsman (NSO). Its service covers international and domestic higher education students, including former students and people enrolling.

The NSO can consider matters such as enrolment decisions, complaint handling, course changes and student safety. It does not reconsider academic judgement, such as the merit of an awarded grade.

TEQSA accepts concerns about compliance with higher education standards. It is not an individual complaints-resolution service. Tuition protection and visa enquiries have their own separate services.
